Matthew Clum: A Creator Intro
Share
Hi, I'm Matthew (26, he/him).
I'm a performing artist, vocalist, and writer. I also dabble in some handicrafts, such as crochet and collage. My other interests include cooking, gardening, conservation, and drawing. You may have seen me recently in Starlight Theatre's production of The Spongebob Musical in which I played Patrick Star while using my personal cane onstage! I am a disability justice advocate and a teacher. I believe that art made by the oppressed for the oppressed, what I call revolutionary art, will be a cornerstone to the dismantling of white supremacy and colonialism on our planet.
I made Rockford my home almost two years ago when I decided to seek out community on TikTok. As a trans, disabled, autistic artist, I knew I needed the support of other folx like me to work toward a better future. This is how I met my current partner, Wren (he/they) of disabledisntdead. I've met lots of incredible people in this city, many of whom have already shown up for their community in ways I never imagined. But, there is still a lot of work to be done before Rockford is a place where everyone, regardless of identity or ability, can feel truly welcome. I believe that you can join in that effort, too, and I hope to inspire and empower you to do that.
You can learn more about me, my advocacy efforts, and my musings on the power of revolutionary art on my blog Hope Lives Here.
